Mechanics - Basic Rules - Will
Represents both how in control your character is and how much effort it is able to exert.
Will equals [Maximum Will – Will Depletion].
Will can be reduced to 0, your character becomes unmotivated, easily swayed, and driven by impulse, if not outright catatonic (ie – Will 0 is a bad state to be in).
Is determined by your character’s mental and emotional toughness. It is as high as your Will can get.
Max Will equals [Resolve + Composure].
Is a measure of how mentally / emotionally strained your character is.
Staying awake for long periods, experiencing trauma, starving, or otherwise being physically or emotionally stressed may cause will depletion.
Supernatural effects may cause will depletion.
Spending Will to gain extra dice on a roll causes will depletion.
Will depletion heals with rest, at a base rate of one point per night.
Will is Important
It’s the stat that allows you to keep control of your character even when it might be tempted to do other things.
It’s also used a lot in resisting supernatural effects. Will is an important trait for magicians.
Effect of modifying statistics on Will
If your character gains a dot(s) in Resolve or Composure, even temporarily, then their Will, and Maximum Will, will increase.
If your character loses a dot(s) in Resolve or Composure, even temporarily, then their Will, and Maximum Will, will decrease. This can result in a negative Will (that’s normally a really bad thing).
