Powers - Innate - Domain Introspection - Dot 0 - Devour

An Awakened can Devour the soul from a victim’s body.

Requires Touch a victim whose soul is still in their body, usually either still alive or only recently dead.
Action Main, Extended.
Cost 1 Aura per roll.
Roll [ Will + Release Level, up to dots in Introspection] opposed by the victim’s [ Will + Supernatural Strength].
Penalties For distraction and damage taken during a Devour attempt.
Note The victim gets an opposed roll even if they are dead – You’re trying to eat their Soul!
Note If the victim is still alive they gain +2 dice per uninjured health level, and +1 dice per bruised health level. A healthy body is a healthy soul.
Note Multiple Awakened can attempt to devour the same victim. The victim only gets one resist roll per turn, with excess successes resisting subsequent devour attempts.
Effect While Devouring the character is immobilized and distracted, suffering -4 dice to all perception checks.
Effect The Awakened’s hands turn green, phloem like veins rise under their aura infiltrates and tears at the victim’s soul. Oh yes… the victim (even if dead) will Scream!
Effect Each success rips a random Soul Fragment from the victim’s soul and sends it through the Awakened into their Domain. Parts of the victim’s knowledge (especially rituals) may be imprinted on the fragment.
Effect If the victim is alive they take Stagger Penalty equal to the essence value of the fragments ripped free, gain Instability of their own type equal to the essence value of the Fragments ripped free, and lose exp in the Attribute, Skill, or Power from which each Fragment came equal to the Fragment’s essence value.
Note The Awakened may immediately Absorb one of the Fragments it Devours from each victim they devour.
Note The Awakened may immediately break down Fragments flowing through it, so that the Fragment’s value of Essence flows into the Domain instead.
Effect On Botch, the victim’s soul slips from the Awakened’s grasp and is gone. There is no second chance to Devour the rest unless another Awakened is also Devouring the victim and “keeps hold” so to speak of the victim’s soul.
Note Stopping an extended attempt to Devour a victim’s soul before finishing may require a Resist Temptation check if the Awakened is at anticipatory or higher Temptation State.
Note Devouring does not yield a Soul Fragment for every point of exp the victim had. It’s a semi random yield, influenced by how powerful the victim was and which Attributes, Skills, and Powers were most core to its identity.
Note If a victim survives a partial Devouring they are likely to suffer permanent trauma and derangement.

An Awakened can ingest material rich in supernatural influence:

Requires Physically consume the material.
Action Depends on situation.
Cost None.
Effect Essence may flow to the Domain.

An Awakened can Devour their own vessel:

Action Main, Extended.
Cost 1 Aura per roll.
Roll [ Will + Release Level, up to dots in Introspection].
Effect Each success rips a Fragment from the Awakened’s soul and passes it into the Domain. The Awakened gets to chose from which Attribute, Skill, or Power the Fragment comes, but not its essence value.
Effect For each fragment ripped out the Awakened takes Stagger Penalty, loses Exp in the statistic from which the fragment came, and takes Instability of their own type, all equal to the essence value of the fragment lost. Parts of their knowledge (especially rituals) may be imprinted on the fragment and lost.

Note: This is an Innate Power that the character gains on Awakening.
